Headteacher: Gillian Austerfield

Welcome to Aspen Class in Year 1!  Our teachers are Mrs Ellis and Mrs Skelton. Mrs Skelton teaches us on a Monday and Tuesday. Mrs Ellis teaches us on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

We have PE on Monday and Friday mornings. Our PE kit is:

  • white t-shirt
  • royal blue shorts
  • jogging bottoms
  • jumper or hoodie
  • trainers
  • Please write my name on all my PE clothes and uniform as I don't want to lose them.
  • On PE days we can't wear earrings and girls with long hair should have it tied back.

We love singing on Tuesdays with Mr Gamble.

Spelling and Maths homework is sent home every Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. It is important that I read every day for ten minutes. When I read to you, a sibling or family member please write the date and your initials and if you have time a short comment to let my teachers know how I'm getting on with my reading.

Growth mindset

amanda on: Aspen's Blog

This week the children have been learning about how to have a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset.

In Maths they have worked together in their teams to solve a range of problems. In English they have changed statements from a fixed mindset e.g. I can't do it! To a growth mindset; I can do it or I can't do it yet! They've had fun listening to and learning different songs about having a positive attitude and learning to hula hoop while counting. What a great week we've had in Aspen class!

Creative homework

amanda on: Aspen's Blog

Thank you to the children who completed this term's creative homework about inspirational people. We had a great time looking at the homework exhibition and learning about so many people!

We've displayed the homework in the school corridor so please have a look next time you're in school.

A great start to our last half term!

amanda on: Aspen's Blog

The children have made a fantastic start to their last half term in Year One. We were extremely proud of them last week during the Phonics Screening Test. They showed great effort and enthusiasm during the test and enjoyed using sound buttons to help them read the words. Well done Aspen class, keep up the great work this half term!
